A stereo sound was programmed to recreate Hans Richter‘s silent film Rhythmus 21 and is analysed using an oscilloscope. The screen of the oscilloscope displays a reproduction of the film Rhythmus 21, while the original film can be seen and compared on a separate screen next to it and the sound is played on headphones. The image on the oscilloscope demonstrates the direct correlation between the programmed sound and the film.

The oscilloscope is built into a sculpture that is a three-dimensional recreation of one specific frame of the film. The laser cut mural shows the programmed stereo sound and can be read as a musical score to the film.

 

Ein Stereoton wurde nach der visuellen Vorlage von Hans Richters Stummfilm Rhythmus 21 programmiert und wird mittels eines Oszilloskops analysiert. Auf dem Bildschirm des Oszilloskops entsteht ein Abbild des Films Rhythmus 21, während daneben auf einem Display zum visuellen Abgleich der Originalfilm läuft. Gleichzeitig wird der Stereoton mit einem Kopfhörer wiedergegeben. Das auf dem Oszilloskop angezeigte Bild ist somit die Manifestation der direkten Analogie zwischen dem programmierten Ton und Rhythmus 21.

Das Oszilloskop ist in eine Skulptur eingebaut, die wiederum der dreidimensionalen Darstellung eines Standbildes aus Rhythmus 21 entspricht. Das Wandbild zeigt den programmierten Stereoton und kann wie eine Partitur des Films mitgelesen werden.
